‌Samantha, a School of Education student in our BA in Childhood Practice programme, wanted to tell her story about her time studying at the School of Education whilst working full-time as a Child Development Officer.

“Hello, my name is Samantha Scott. I am a student at the University of Glasgow, currently due to graduate with my BA in Childhood Practice. I wish to share some insight into how this degree has helped to change my thinking, motivate me further in practice, building further confidence in developing my leadership skills.

I am a Child Development Officer for the local authority. Since my journey started, I have worked in various settings across the private sector, voluntary sector and in my current position with the local authority. I have carried out senior and lead roles previously. Before starting the BA program, I was unsure of my next step in life, whether it be a career change or career progression. This led to pushing myself out of my comfort zone and applying for the BA in Childhood Practice, after some time out of education.

When successfully securing a place in the programme, I had hopes of gaining more clarity for my future pathway. Since completing the course, I have the utmost respect for the University, the lecturers and the programme. The course has helped me become a more knowledgeable and reflective practitioner. I have found my confidence and motivation in leadership and my love for my job again. I have regained my passion for our sector, helping me build a plan for my future in childhood practice.

I am forever grateful for everyone who has helped and supported me through my time and progression at the School of Education.”
