Seeking teachers in Scotland to participate in Focus Group discussions that will help to identify priorities for the Centre for Teaching Excellence

The School of Education at the University of Glasgow has been awarded the contract to host the Scottish Government’s Centre for Teaching Excellence (CfTE), a major aim of which is ‘to support teachers, including those in Gaelic Medium Education, to actively lead and engage with research and evidence to help inform and develop their practice’. The Centre will provide a service for all of Scotland’s teachers, supporting them to access, create and use research to further enhance teaching and learning in Scottish schools.

To support the development of the Centre, we are conducting an initial Engagement Phase. This is focused on the Scottish Government’s objective 1 for the Centre, namely, Working in collaboration with teachers and other stakeholders to identify areas of priority for research on learning, teaching, and assessment in Scotland’s education system.

As part of this engagement exercise, we would like to invite teachers in different sectors to participate in online focus group discussions (see dates and target groups below). The focus group will be an opportunity for us to explore views on areas of priority for research on learning, teaching, and assessment in Scotland’s education system. This information will shape the design of a national survey for all teachers in Scotland, which will in turn inform the identification of thematic hubs developed as part of the Centre.

Further information about the research and the ethical assurances can be accessed via the undernoted URL for each session. Our research has been approved by the College of Social Sciences Ethics Committee at the University of Glasgow.

If you’ve got any questions about this, you can contact centreforteachingexcellence@glasgow.ac.uk

We are looking forward to further engagement with teachers as the Centre develops and will be launching a national survey in May.

Using the links below you can read more detail about the focus groups, what we will be asking about and how we will treat your data if you volunteer to participate. The links also allow you to provide your consent and give us contact details. Please only sign up for one session.
