Pussy Riot, Counter Cultural Resistance and Russian Spiritual Traditions

Russian academic and activist Dr Elena Volkova will present an analysis of the cultural intervention represented by Pussy Riot and in particular the ‘punk prayer’ performance which lead to the arrest and trial of members of the group. Drawing upon Russian folk and spiritual traditions, particularly that of the Holy Fool, the radical and prophetic significance of this protest becomes apparent.
