Handbook and Report Guide
COMPONENTS AND ASSESSMENT OF THE YEAR IN INDUSTRY
The assessment of the placement year contributes 20% to the final degree mark. We are aware that placements, and specifically the nature of research in different subject areas, differ considerably, and the following are intended as general guidelines.
Sample Research Report
(NOTE THIS IS A RESEARCH REPORT NOT A PLACEMENT REPORT BUT SHOULD PROVIDE SOME USEFUL INFO REGARDING STYLE / LENGTH / FORMAT)
The assessment will consist of:
• An assessment of the practical work by the placement supervisor.
• A written report, which will be read by the placement supervisor and academic supervisor, and will be given a mark based on its content and presentation. The external examiners will have access to the report unless it is subject to confidentiality.
• An oral presentation of the work given to the department on return to the University.
There will also be mandatory distance learning coursework.
