Glassblowing
The University Glassblowing service provides specialist facilities for the design, manufacture and repair of scientific glassware.
The Glass Workshop is fully equipped for the production of specialised glassware to satisfy the needs of research groups and teaching laboratories in many departments in the University of Glasgow. Work is undertaken for educational, medical and commercial organisations both from inside and outside the UK. No job is too small or too large and staff are available to help with design when required. We work with Borosilicate, Quartz and soda glass and quotations will be given on request.

We keep stocks of Pyrex, Duran and Simax borosilicate tubing and rod. We also keep stocks of HP/GP Rotaflo taps, Pyrex High Vacuum and General use stopcocks, Young’s/GPE High Vacuum Products, Quickfit, Rodaviss, Natural/Synthetic Quartz tube/rod and SVL products.
All glassware brought to the Glassblower for repair or modification must be free of all chemicals, solvents and grease. If it is not the glassware will be returned and the work will not be carried out.
Glassblowing request forms are available for download and completed forms should be handed into the glassblower in person.
