Philip Schlesinger opened a one-day international seminar on the creative industries held at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme Paris Nord on 7 June. In his paper, 'Smoke and mirrors: the politics and economics of the creative industries in the UK', he considered policy continuities and discontinuities in the shift from New Labour to the Coalition. The French academic audience was also addressed by speakers from Canada, France and Spain.
