Textile Conservation at the Kelvin Centre
Our MPhil Textile Conservation is a vocational programme and has strong links with the heritage sector in the UK and internationally. Students benefit from our close working relationship with The Hunterian and Glasgow Museums and other institutions in Scotland and further afield. Students work on objects which belong to museums and undertake a work placement in the UK or overseas, as well as being exposed to the wide range of roles within a museum service.
Graduates are in a position to begin work in the heritage sector as textile conservators working for museums, historic houses or with freelance conservators. They can expect to gain internships and short-term contracts initially and the long term employment record of our graduates is good. Students are encouraged to join the professional conservation institutes – see links.
The CTC is very fortunate to have its own supporting trust, the Textile Conservation Foundation which raises funds for student bursaries and equipment.
