Book and Paper Conservation at the Kelvin Centre

Book and paper conservation combines expertise in professional conservation practice, cultural heritage research, and applied science to support the conservation of a range of book and paper-related cultural heritage artefacts.

Our postgraduate programme is a vocational programme offering students the opportunity to focus on the specialist areas of either conservation for books and archival materials, or conservation of paper including photographic media. Students benefit from our close working relationship with The Hunterian and Glasgow Museums and other institutions within the heritage sector in Scotland and further afield. Our students work on objects which belong to museums and undertake a work placement in the UK or overseas.

Graduates are in a position to begin work in the heritage sector as practising subject specialist conservators and/or cultural heritage researchers, or in roles within collections management, archives, and arts administration.
