AI regulation was discussed by a panel chaired and introduced by CCPR’s Professor Philip Schlesinger. He opened with reflections on the geopolitical and national security aspects of current regulatory developments.

The BBC’s Technology Editor, Zoe Kleinman, next gave a lively account of how she had reported the international AI Summit held at Bletchley Park on 1-2 November, and discussed present concerns about AI and the future of work. UofG Politics Professor Tom Scotto followed by considering the gap between expert views of AI and those of the US public, focusing on complex questions of trust.

The event, held in the Senate Room on 14 November, was sponsored by the US Embassy, whose cultural attaché, Pam DeVolder, attended. It was devised and organised by the American Politics Group of the Political Studies Association. A videorecording will be made available online.
