Dr Jack Beazer

Biography

Jack completed his BSc (Hons) in Pharmacology and Physiology at the Medway School of Pharmacy, Universities of Kent and Greenwich, before moving to the University of Glasgow in 2018. There, Jack successfully enrolled onto the British Heart Foundation 4-Year PhD Studentship Scheme. This comprised an MRes in Translational Medicine, followed by a PhD supervised by Dr Dilys Freeman, studying high-density lipoprotein composition and vascular function in insulin resistant states like obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and both healthy and complicated pregnancy (awarded in 2024). After teaching and research technician posts, Jack currently works as a Research Assistant at the Glasgow Biomarker Research Unit, applying his experience in statistical analysis, -omics data and lipoprotein metabolism to uncover novel biomarkers / repurpose existing biomarkers for use in clinical trials, diagnosis and treatment of a range of diseases including cardiometabolic and neurological conditions. Jack is also involved in outreach events such as 'meet the scientist' and careers fayres at primary and secondary schools in the Greater Glasgow area.

Teaching

Jack contributes to the teaching and marking of the MSc module MED5539 - Clinical and Research Laboratory Skills, led by Prof Paul Welsh. Previously Jack was a Tutor for the MSc in Medical Genetics and Genomics, School of Medicine Denistry and Nursing. He also contributes to the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate project students in the laboratory.
