Updates and Outcomes from SULSA funding and developments.
RS MacDonald Fund:
- SULSA and SINAPSE have delivered the RS MacDonald Research & Facility Fund for neurological conditions and retinal disease (£80,000 of seed funding exclusively for SULSA and SINAPSE members).
- We received 30 applications and we are awarding 9 research projects, across 8 SULSA members, supporting 9 university-based facilities.
- The University of Glasgow submitted 6 applications and was co-applicant on 13. 1 project was successful and has secured £3,000 supporting a collaboration with RWTH Aachen University, Germany. An additional 4 have been awarded with Glasgow as co-applicant, accessing University of Glasgow facilities.
- The RS MacDonald Trust are very impressed with our ability to deliver funding to such a diversity of locations and appreciate the unique mechanism we offer. We will be applying for this funding again in 2026/27 and aim to deliver an annual fund.
International Developments:
- SULSA meetings held with the Irish Consulate in Frankfurt to discuss a broadening of the Scotland/Rheinland-Pfalz (RLP) partnership to include Ireland
- Follow on meetings with National Universities Ireland and meetings with VPRs across Ireland have begun to gain an understanding of synergistic themes in life sciences and explore potential for Horizon Europe/FP10 sandpits between Scotland, Ireland and RLP
- Funding has been identified that can enable SULSA to support collaborative activity
Facilities Database:
- SULSA will be generating a facilities database for the SULSA website. Sara is looking for facility contacts across our members, we have 60 so far (see attached). - We will deliver a series of online and in-person activity in April and we are looking for academics to present, join panels and write content. I will send out targeted emails but if you have academics in mind who would be interested please contact us.
