Outi joins SCMH as a Research Technician
We would like to welcome Outi Kamarainen to SCMH.
"I recently joined SCMH and Will Fuller’s group where I work as a Research Technician. I grew up in the Finnish Lapland but decided to migrate southwards to study and I have lived in the UK since completing my first degree in the University of Aberdeen. I moved to Glasgow about 8 years ago after finishing my PhD in the University of Leeds. Prior to joining Will’s group, I was working in the Davidson building in School of Molecular Biosciences for 6 years as a lab manager and carrying out research in protein ubiquitination mechanistic. I am a structural Biochemist by training and have so far been working in molecular biology field ranging from academic labs, clinical diagnostics sector and briefly within pharma industry, and I have enjoyed learning about very different types of research to what I have been used to in previous roles that is carried out in SCMH in the AIR lecture series so far.
Given that we are coming close to Christmas, a little-known fact about me is that I have worked as an elf in the “official” Santa’s grotto in Rovaniemi. I am also a keen runner and orienteer and enjoy being out in the hills when I have some free time – that should hopefully give you something to talk about if you see me and want to come and say hello."
