PRECISE Study (Preventing Recurrent Cardioembolic Stroke – New Blood Tests and Risk Prediction)

Congratulations to Prof Jesse Dawson and Dr Alan Cameron who were recently awarded the Heart Research UK (Scotland) Grant. The Award of ~£116,000 will support the PRECISE Study, which is a prospective cohort study of 675 people with ischaemic stroke that will use clinical data, advanced ECG analysis, blood biomarkers and genetic data to develop a prognostic model that will inform the design of a more personalised care pathway to search for atrial fibrillation after ischaemic stroke.

In addition, Prof Jesse Dawson and Dr Alan Cameron have also recently been awarded the NIHR Clinical Research Network / British Association of Stroke Physicians Writing Group Award to develop future grant applications to support their research programme. The Writing Group includes collaborations with Prof Olivia Wu and Mr Robert Heggie from the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment Research Unit, as well as colleagues from Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle Universities.
