BHF fundraiser 5-a-side football tournament

Tournament was held on the 20th March 2024
On 20th March 2024, Prof Jim Lewsey (School of Health & Wellbeing) organised a very successful BHF fundraiser 5-a-side football (futsal) tournament to celebrate 10 healthy years since his almost fatal cardiac arrest when playing football at the Stevenson building. The quick reactions of those there and the NHS care he received subsequently (including from SCMH staff) saved his life and he recovered so well that he’s been back playing football (with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator) for over 9 years. He’s basically the forerunner of Christian Eriksen (Ajax, Spurs, Inter Milan, Brentford, Man Utd).
Prof George Baillie from SCMH, who was playing with Jim when the cardiac arrest happened, acted as referee across all 21 games that evening – quite an achievement, especially as some were quite “intense”. Dr John McClure captained the team representing the SCMH (in true 5-a-side naming-style they were “Pathetico Madrid”). One of the former Janitors at the BHF building, Steven Hunter, captained the winning team (“Real Sosobad”, who were actually Sosogood).
Altogether £1,543 was raised for the BHF.
