We would like to welcome Nur Dania Binti Rosaini to SCMH!

"My interest in exercise and metabolic health continues to grow after graduating from Universiti Teknologi MARA, Malaysia, with a Bachelor of Sports Science (Hons.). As a former martial art athlete, my initial focus was on athletic sports performance. Realising that undertaking research in the exercise and metabolic health might benefit bigger population has diverted my attention from solemnly focusing on the sports performance. After discovering the Integrated PhD programme offered here, it has given me the opportunity to pursue my doctorate degree immediately following my undergraduate studies. Receiving financing from MARA’s Graduate Excellence Programme has allowed me to dive further into this topic for the next four years.

During my bachelor’s programme, I conducted research on the effects of doing resistance training to voluntary failure for one session per week and how it would influence the muscle adaptations in overweight men. Although the study was conducted over a short period of time due to COVID-19, the findings piqued my interest in learning more about the relationship between resistance training and metabolic health. Given that the present trend of physical activity participation, especially in resistance training, is unsatisfactory, and that the trend of illnesses continues to rise, I am eager to find ways that could improve and contribute to the progress of the subject.

Under the supervision of Prof. Stuart Gray and Dr. Gemma Ryde, I will be conducting research on the trend of resistance training involvement among adults for my PhD. Through this work, I hope to identify the effect and effectiveness of resistance training in various settings, with the goal of developing an effective approach that could increase resistance training participation among adults."

We wish you all the best with your studies.
