Professor Eleanor Davies Research Group at the Society for Endocrinology BES conference
This year the annual Society for Endocrinology BES conference was held in Glasgow (13th-15th November). Professor Eleanor Davies took her research group to join over 1000 researchers attending this meeting.
The meeting kicked off with the President’s lecture by Professor Mark Caulfield of Queen Mary University titled “Transforming Genomics in Healthcare”. The 2nd day included several presentations in adrenal and cardiovascular endocrinology including “Urine Steroid Metabolomics as a Diagnostic Tool in Endocrine Hypertension” delivered by Alesandro Prete from the University of Birmingham. This day was followed by a dinner at the Glasgow Science Centre. The final day included presentations featuring work from the ENSAT-HT programme, with the talk “Insights on Emerging Biomarkers” given by Maria-Christina Zennaro of Université Paris Cité. Several interesting workshops and “Meet the Expert” meetings were delivered throughout the conference, along with daily poster sessions.
Prizes were given to best posters and oral communications, with Lara Birch winning best oral communication in adrenal and cardiovascular section. Lara is a final-year BHF funded PhD student supervised by Professor Eleanor Davies and Dr Lorraine Work and won with her talk titled “Identification of MicroRNAs Targeting the Mineralocorticoid Receptor with Therapeutic Potential in Vascular Cognitive Impairment”.
Overall, it was a fantastic meeting, and we look forward to the next one in Belfast, 2024.
