We would like to welcome back Dr Aisling McFall to SCMH.
Aisling returned to SCMH in November 2023 as a post-doc working on an exciting CSO funded collaborative project between Lorraine Work and Roslyn Bill (Aston, Birmingham), Stuart Greenhill (Aston, Birmingham) and Mootaz Salman (Oxford) which is entitled “Combined targeting of oedema and neuronal plasticity as a new therapeutic framework to treat ischaemic stroke.” This project will assess the repurposing of trifluoperazine and maraviroc for ischaemic stroke treatment using novel in vitro models of the neurovascular unit and a comorbid, hypertensive, animal model of stroke. Aisling is no stranger to the school after completing her BHF funded PhD in SCMH in 2020 with Lorraine Work and Stuart Nicklin, where she assessed the potential of the counter regulatory renin angiotensin system as a therapeutic target for ischaemic stroke. Since then she has worked in the School of Biomolecular Sciences as a lab manager/research assistant in Helen Walden’s structural biology lab, and subsequently as a post-doc for Andrew Tobin working on the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors in neurodegeneration and animal behaviour. Aisling has also had a few changes to her home life since her time as a PhD student here, with the arrival of her daughter during lockdown just after completion of her PhD viva; she is now expecting baby number two in March!
We look forward to working with you again.
