Dr Qijun Zhou

  • Lecturer in Management (Management)

Biography

Qijun currently works as a Lecturer in Management at the University of Glasgow's Adam Smith Business School. He holds a BSc in Economics from Wuhan University of Technology, and both an MSc and a PhD in Management from the University of Glasgow.

Prior to his current role, he was a Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Operations Management at the University of the West of England and a Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the University of Greenwich. Additionally, Qijun was a research associate in the early stages of the DARWIN project, working on market, business model, and ecosystem analysis for Connected Autonomous Vehicles (CAVs).

Qijun is actively engaged in teaching and research activities in broad areas of (responsible) innovation management, managing strategies, operations and supply chain management, and digital transformation. He employs both conceptual and empirical approaches to research, with expertise in protocol-driven literature reviews and qualitative methods. He is particularly interested in exploring assumptions in organizations and management studies to make theoretical contributions. His current research aspirations can be summarized into three streams:

Managing Technological Innovation for Social Good: In this stream of research, Qijun focuses on combining the actions of innovation management, often targeted for competitive advantages, with the need to create social value. He aims to explore how technologies can be managed responsibly to mitigate unintended consequences, be more inclusive, and create additional value for society.

Digital Transformation in Context: In this stream of research, Qijun explores the effectiveness of digital transformation in different organizational and institutional settings. For example, he investigates whether digital transformation should be considered by all SMEs that are restricted by resources and capabilities, and explores digital twin adoption in manufacturing settings. He is also interested in entrepreneurship in the digital age, such as how crowdfunding platforms impact different types of startups.

Supply Chain Management: In this stream of research, Qijun examines how different supply chain management practices may have wider impacts, such as sustainability and resilience. For example, he explores additive manufacturing for supply chains, closed-loop supply chains, and, more broadly, the circular economy. This stream is currently developmental for Qijun compared to the first two.

Supervision

Qijun welcome enquiries from prospective research students in broad areas of innovation and technology management, digital transformation and supply chain resilience and sustainability.

Please note that Qijun priorities proposals in innovation management and digital transformation and will only consider very strong and well-developed ones in supply chain management. Qijun prefers candidates that are self-motivated, curious and comfortable engaging in both theoretical and practical discussions. In addition, candidates should have fundamental knowledge regarding research methods in business and management studies.

Prospective students can send over a CV and research proposal to Qijun for an initial contact.
