"Moonlighting in the World of Placemaking - a case for secondments in higher education"

Room 383, Adam Smith Business School & PGT Hub
Abstract
In this presentation I explore the nexus between industry and research and the lived experience of knowledge exchange. I will be sharing stories from my year on secondment, working as Head of Visual Engagement in a placemaking consultancy and architectural practice. I will be reflecting on three areas of interest including; what opportunities the secondment has provided so far; my personal reflections on everyday life in the Studio; and how this space 'in-between' holds much potential for collaborations between universities, the private sector, and real-world impact. I will be questioning; how can opportunities like these be supported? And in what ways can opportunities like external secondments provide universities with new areas of growth?
