On Friday, 11 November 2022, management scholars from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business (USA) and the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School (Scotland) came together for the first joint research seminar. The seminar provided a platform for scholars from both institutions to present their research and make new connections.

After a welcome by the seminar chairs, Dr Stephan von Delft (Glasgow) and Professor Paul Olk (Denver), both institutions were briefly introduced. For Glasgow, Professor Margaret Fletcher gave an overview of the Adam Smith Business School.

The core of the seminar were seven research pitches by scholars from both institutions:

  • Professor Rudolf Sinkovics (Glasgow) presented his research on relational governance, digital technologies and international business, and research methods in international business.
  • Dr Jung H. Kwon (Denver) presented his research on the strategic management of intellectual property rights and technology-based entrepreneurship.
  • Dr Dong-hyu Kim (Glasgow) presented his research on technological standards and patents, digital policy and technologies, and platform innovation and competition.
  • Dr Michael Nalick (Denver) presented his research on corporate misconduct, the intersection of politics and business, and CEO activism.
  • Professor Dominic Chalmers (Glasgow), together with PhD student and Marie Curie ITN Early-Stage Researcher Felix Honecker (Glasgow), presented his research on how artificial intelligence impacts legitimacy judgement formation.
  • Dr Andrew Schnackenberg (Denver) presented his research on the construct of transparency and how it is construed and conveyed in organisations.
  • Professor Aimee Hamilton (Denver) presented her research on identity, image and reputation, as well as knowledge workers and innovation in organisations.

The seminar is a result of discussions between management scholars from both institutions to develop opportunities for collaboration, and it builds on a partnership agreement between University of Glasgow and University of Denver.
