Active learning techniques for engaging large classes

Thursday 19 March 2020, 12pm - 1.30pm
Room 540A, Level 5, G-Entrance, Main Building

Presented by Niall Barr (IT Services) and Sarah Honeychurch (Adam Smith Business School)

We’re delighted to announce the first topic for our revised Learning and Teaching Forum. All staff are welcome to attend.

This interactive session will introduce participants to a range of techniques that can be used in face-to-face classes in order to actively engage students in their learning. These techniques can be used with any size of class, but they are particularly suited to large cohorts of learners.

We will demonstrate these techniques by using YACRS, which is the University of Glasgow’s in-house class response system. However, the techniques themselves can be adapted for use with proprietary software, or can be used with pencils and paper. The session will include a short step-by-step guide to setting up and using YACRS.

Participants are encouraged to bring along a smart phone, or other mobile device, so that they can participate in the activities and experience these techniques from a student perspective.
