We study diseases that are linked with ageing, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and dementia, to increase knowledge and ultimately develop better approaches to detect, treat and manage disease.

Mechanisms of Ageing

We explore the fundamental mechanisms underlying ageing in humans and animals to better understand the physiological nature of ageing, sources of variation, and their relationships to life histories. We are also interested in developing novel biomarkers of ageing.

Our work

We are committed to investigating all facets of ageing, from its causes and consequences at the molecular level through to the whole organism and how interactions with the environment change thoughout the ageing process.

Our activity is inherently interdisciplinary, harnessing several different approaches and research perspectives to answer pressing questions about ageing and its impacts, and we operate across three inter-related themes:
