How has gadoid biomass in the Clyde Sea been sustained?

The Firth of Clyde has been subjected to very high fishing pressure, resulting in the collapse of some fish stocks. Despite there being no targeted fishery for cod, haddock and whiting in the Clyde the population densities and size frequency distributions of these fish have not recovered. This project will support a PhD studentship to investigate where fish populations spawn and whether the Clyde is a source of adult fish migrating into other areas. This is a project of local political importance but also a valuable model system for understanding how ecosystems recover from fishing
