International Women's Day 2018
IBAHCM celebrated International Women's Day 2018 with a special event held in the Zoology Museum of the Graham Kerr Building on Thursday, 8th March.
International Women's Day is an international day dedicated to celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, and highlighting the challenges still faced by women globally. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. The day has been marked for well over a century, with the first March 8 IWD gathering supported by over a million people in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland.
We had a great turn-out for the event where staff and students from across the Institute were treated to coffee and cake. The highlight of the event was a very uplifting and inspirational address by our very own Professor Sarah Cleaveland, who took us through some of the challenges she's faced throughout her brilliant career, her inspiration and celebration of the women she has worked with.
A big thank you is due to all those who helped in the organisation and planning of the event. The biggest thank you is reserved for all of you who turned up to #PressForProgress, an IWD 2018 campaign to inspire everyone to commit to the acceleration of gender parity. Keep on pledging!
The video below is a small memento of the day.
