Widening Participation Scholarships
The University of Glasgow offers a wide range of scholarships and bursaries to incoming students, ordinarily resident in Scotland, who may face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study. Some opportunities are also open to applicants from the rest of the UK.
Scholarship applications are particularly welcome from applicants who meet any of the widening participation criteria:
* Live in an SIMD decile 1-4 (MD20/40 Scottish postcode area)
* Have care experience
* Are estranged from family and living without family support
* Are seeking asylum or have refugee status in the UK
* Are a Carer (providing unpaid care)
* Have completed one of our pre-entry programmes (Top-Up Programme, Summer School, Reach, Access to a Career, University Experience week, Sutton Trust Summer School, HNC Articulation Programme, a University Access Programme or SWAP West Access Programme) or a pre-entry programme at another university.

Undergraduate Talent Scholarships
Available for: Undergraduate applicants
The University of Glasgow offers around 50 Undergraduate Talent Scholarships to support students ordinarily resident in Scotland, who could face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study at the University for 2024 entry. The value of each scholarship is typically £1,500 p.a. for each year of the degree programme.
Travel Bursaries
Available for: Undergraduate applicants
The University of Glasgow offers travel bursaries to assist with public transport travel costs, to support undergraduate students who could face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study at the University for 2024 entry. The value of the bursary is 50% of your monthly public transport travel costs to get to University, up to a maximum value of £50 per month.
James McCune Smith Undergraduate Scholarship
Available for: Undergraduate applicants
The University of Glasgow has up to 30 undergraduate scholarships available for students of African/African-Caribbean backgrounds. The scholarship supports students who could face financial difficulties taking up their place to study at the University. The value of the scholarship is £2,000, paid in instalments for year one of undergraduate study. The scholarship is open to new applicants to the university for 2024 entry. Current students who have previously been in receipt of the award may reapply, however, preference will be given to applicants entering their first year of study.
William Wilson Scott Scholarship
Available for: Undergraduate applicants
The William Wilson Scott Scholarship is available for two new female undergraduate students undertaking a degree in either Computing Science or Engineering for 2024 entry. This scholarship is open to UK applicants and aims to support students who could face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study at the University.
Sanctuary Scholarship
Available for: Undergraduate & Postgraduate Taught applicants
The University of Glasgow is offering up to 20 Sanctuary Scholarships for applicants to the University have been forced to travel to the UK on humanitarian grounds and are facing challenges in progressing onto Higher Education. The scholarship is open to prospective undergraduate and postgraduate taught students at the University of Glasgow applying for entry in September 2024/25. The scholarship will meet the cost of tuition fees for the duration of your programme, for those applicants who are unable to cover full tuition fees, through access to public funds by applying to SAAS or Student Finance. The Sanctuary Scholarship also provides a £5,000 per year stipend, to assist with study costs.
Postgraduate Access Scholarships
Available for: Postgraduate Taught applicants
The University of Glasgow is pleased to be offering Postgraduate Access Scholarships to support students who could face financial difficulties in taking up their place to study at the University. Applications are particularly welcomed from applicants who met any of our widening participation criteria, or equivalent, at undergraduate level. The value of each scholarship is £4,000 and they are for students undertaking a one or two year Taught Masters programme. For two year Taught Masters programmes, the scholarship is available in year one only.
