Montel’s PhD research explores the school-to-prison pipeline for Black Caribbean boys with his study based in Birmingham.
Montel's academic background is in history and literature where he completed his undergraduate and masters at The University of Nottingham and The University of Warwick. During this time, founded the Nostalgia '99 music and culture magazine series and was funded by the Youth Music Network to create an interactive book titled 'The Black British Experience Through the Eyes of Music'. Professionally, Montel has worked as a qualitative and quantitative research in the What Works Centre and in the education sector as a learning mentor. He also serves as a regular opinion writer for both The Voice and The Jamaican Gleaner with additional publications in The Metro, inews, The Independent and more.
Montel’s PhD research explores the school-to-prison pipeline for Black Caribbean boys with his study based in Birmingham. He endeavours to detect whether this US phenomenon for Blacks and Browns is replicated in the UK.
