Biography
Judith joined the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit in April 2019 and is part of the Complexity Programme. Her research work focuses on children and young people and in particular, mental health.
Judith currently works on two school-based projects:
Health Behaviours in School-aged Children (HBSC) Scotland team. HBSC is a cross-national study that looks adolescent health and wellbeing. The survey research is conducted every four years and is carried out in collaboration with the WHO Regional Office for Europe.
The Schools Health and Wellbeing Improvement Research Network (SHINE) aims to support schools in addressing their health and wellbeing needs by using a data-driven, systems-level approach to health improvement. As part of her work on SHINE, Judith conducted a review of mental health measures and developed an online pupil survey to measure different aspects of mental health. Schools that take part in the survey receive a school level report that presents the survey results. Judith has worked on the development of the survey and reporting, overseeing the development of the automated system. Judith is also responsible for the data management and analysis of the survey data and since 2020, we have collected over 90,000 responses from young people across Scotland. Judith enjoys working with schools and local authorities on interpreting survey data.
Judith has a MSc in Social Research (with distinction) from the University of Edinburgh and has carried out research work in a variety of different organisations, including consultancy and third sector. She previously worked as a Senior Researcher at ScotCen Social Research on the Growing up in Scotland study.
