Biography
Evangelia is a Research Fellow and leads the Inequalities in Workplaces theme within the Inequalities in Health Programme at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit. She has BSc (Hons), MSc, and MEng degrees from the University of Toronto and she completed her doctoral studies at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EHTZ). Evangelia joined the MRC/CSO SPHSU in 2014 as a Research Fellow, following a post-doctoral post in Public Health at the University of Glasgow. Her research is centred around understanding how health can impact on work ability and conversely how work can impact on health. In particular, her work focuses on aspects related to health and work ability, the development, implementation and evaluation of workplace interventions, practice improvement, and health promotion.
Evangelia is currently involved in a number of projects on the development, implementation, and evaluation of new and existing workplace and non-workplace interventions that consider the physical, social, and organisational opportunities and barriers to restore functional capacity in the working age population and allow individuals to have a healthy working life. Examples include the evaluation of a case-management intervention for employees of SMEs experiencing health problems, evaluating a sickness absence intervention, and participating in the redesign of services to treat musculoskeletal problems. Evangelia’s current work follows on her PhD research, which examined the health impacts of workplace exposure to pollutants, integrated health assessment tools, and emerging issues in (occupational) health and safety.
