Mission Statement and Aims

Mission Statement

Aligned with the original purposes of the University of Glasgow as a seat of learning, The St Andrew’s Foundation is a place of encounter with Jesus Christ as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6).  We will serve as the locus of Catholic Teacher Education in Scotland and will promote the University’s School of Education as an international centre of excellence in the provision of all aspects of Catholic Teacher Education.

Our mission is grounded in the unique partnership between the Bishop’s Conference in Scotland, the University of Glasgow, and the Scottish Government. This partnership recognises the distinctive nature of Catholic education and its ongoing contribution to the common good.

Aims

The Foundation has the following aims, all of which are equally significant.

  • Contribute to initial teacher education by offering high-quality theological and educational courses that lead to the Catholic Teacher Certificate in Religious Education and support the ongoing theological and pedagogical development of teachers.
  • Undertake and disseminate high-quality research and scholarship in the field of Catholic education for local and international communities.
  • Support the spiritual and pastoral formation of the staff and students of the School of Education.
  • Serve as a hub of professional learning and leadership events, such as conferences and research / knowledge transfer activities of national and international interest.
  • In collaboration with the Board of Catholic Education, ensure that the University of Glasgow successfully meets shared expectations for the provision of teachers for Catholic schools.
