The End of Slaving Warfare in Europe: a Problem in Global Comparative History
Professor John Gillingham, FBA, is a distinguished medieval historian who has published extensively on aspects of the political, social and military history of north-western Europe in the 11th to 13th centuries. His current research focuses in particular on the perceptions and values that shaped war and politics, and especially the treatment of the defeated and the fate of prisoners in warfare.
