Research into the Experiences of Party Litigants Using Simple Procedure

Project Overview

This research aims to find out the views of unrepresented litigants who have used simple procedure since it was introduced in November 2016, with a view to finding out how accessible and usable the simple procedure rules, forms and standard orders are from the perspective of unrepresented litigants, and to identify any amendments that could be made to improve simple procedure.

Research Methods

The research was carried out across four sheriff courts (Aberdeen, Dunfermline, Edinburgh, and Glasgow) in three sheriffdoms. Data was gathered from July 2018 until early January 2019 using both questionnaires and interviews.

Project Funding

This research was founded by the Scottish Civil Justice Council.
