Food for Thought: Capturing the Big Picture | 16th October 2024
Published: 15 October 2024
People of all ages across Scotland are invited to explore different perspectives around food using art and photography.
For World Food Day 2024, SCAF is inviting people from all ages across Scotland to capture perspectives about food, including its diversity, ramifications and its linkage to health, equity and/or sustainability, through photography, illustration or design.
SCAF is looking for entries (photographic images and designs) that depict the broad topic of food. We are welcoming, in particular, entries exploring collaboration and interdisciplinary perspectives on food, i.e. looking at food from different angles.
All selected designs will be integrated into our SCAF showcase and used across internal and external channels to capture the mission and aims of the alliance.
We are calling for submissions in the following themes:
- Mapping Food – people, ideas, and places
- Innovation and Research around food
- Food Culture, Heritage & Behaviour
- Food Security, Environment & Community
- Complexity, interdisciplinarity and collaboration
Submissions will be judged under the following categories:
- Under 12s
- 12-18
- 18+
Criteria for prizes
A panel of members of the Scottish Alliance for Food will judge the submission for creativity, originality, composition, imagination, alignment with SCAF’s themes and motivations, and overall artistic impression.
First (£100), second (£50) and third (£20) prizes will be selected for each age group.
Entry and Eligibility
To enter, you must be a person living in Scotland.
Using the above brief, create an original photograph, illustration or design to visualise the complexity of food. If your photographic picture includes people, they should not be identifiable. Compositions that include art / photographic images sourced from the internet must only do so when the reuse of these items is permitted. The use of Generative AI to create submissions is authorised as long as it is declared, and meets the requirement above.
Save your entry as a high-resolution .tif, .png, or .jpeg (min 300 dpi), size max 1 GB. Please consider submitting the entry as a link/file transfer.
Submit email your entry along with the entry form to scaf@glasgow.ac.uk by 9th January 2024, 8pm.
By submitting an entry, you agree that your entry may be used by SCAF in whole or edited form under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license.
