Nuffield Scholarship students Nicole Ambrose, St Roch’s Secondary School, and Michael Enwegbara, Kirkintilloch High School, completed their research placement with the SCAF team. They each wrote a blog about their experience and what the placement entailed.

SCAF hosted its first annual event, “expanding horizons and collaborating across disciplines and sectors” at the University of Glasgow’s Advanced Research Centre and online. The two-day event welcomed 122 attendees from across institutions, disciplines, and sectors to explore a wide range of ongoing research and prime new connections and collaborations.

"What impressed me most was the diversity of expertise gathered - from soil scientists to social researchers, culinary professionals to chemists - all united by their interest in food. This annual event truly showcased the breadth of research linked to food as a research challenge. It provided a unique opportunity for cross-disciplinary dialogue, bringing together perspectives from every facet of the food system."

SCAF has recently launched opportunities that support the deliverance of member-lead activities and events, mentorship and seed funding. Titled ‘Create, Innovate, Participate!’ all SCAF members are invited to apply to our member-led fund to design and deliver activities and events aligned with the Alliance's vision and mission. The mentorship travel bursary is available to connect applicants with mentors who can help facilitate their career aims and build future capacity. This can be relevant to applying for promotion, developing networks, working on a fellowship or grant application, or connecting around an existing project.

The second round of SCAF pump priming is open to support teams in academic and/or non-academic settings looking to carry out collaborative research and innovation relevant to food/nutrition in the context of health, equity and/or sustainability. The call is open to SCAF members only, with project costs up to £5000 for a duration of 1 to 6 months. The linked sandpit connected researchers interested in developing a collaborative research proposal together for submission to the SCAF Pump Priming Award Round 2.
