New podcast series delves into key policy issues of the UK General Election campaign

A new series of the UofG Spotlight podcast from the Centre for Public Policy is shining a light on the policy issues, the parties, key battlegrounds and events of the UK General Election, bringing you expert insights from the University of Glasgow and beyond.

The six-episode series, Spotlight: On the election will take a deep dive into four key policy areas of the election campaign: the economy and living standards, Europe and UK/EU relations, immigration, and climate change, and analysis of the campaign as a whole.

The weekly episodes feature short conversations with key voices from across the University of Glasgow and beyond, and are hosted by Professor Nicola McEwen, Director of the Centre for Public Policy, Professor Kezia Dugdale, Associate Director of the Centre for Public Policy and Professor Graeme Roy, Fellow of the Centre for Public Policy, Dean of External Engagement and Head of College (Social Sciences).

The first two episodes are available to listen to now.

Episode one: The State of the Race

In episode one, hosts Nicola McEwen and Kezia Dugdale speak with guests Stephen Noon, former senior policy adviser for the first SNP Government, and Eddie Barnes, former adviser to Ruth Davidson and the Scottish Conservatives.

The explore the opening stages of the campaigns, seats to watch and what's likely happening in Party HQ.

Episode two: The Economy and Living Standards

Episode two welcomes Professor Sir Anton Muscatelli, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Glasgow, and Dr Tanya Wilson, Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School.

In conversation with Kezia Dugdale and Graeme Roy, they dive into the key economic challenges facing the parties and potential policy solutions. They cover driving growth and productivity, 'securonomics', the causes of falling living standards, and the experiences of women in multiple low-paid employment.
