Event information

In recent years it has felt like we’re firefighting, caught in cycles of short-term, emergency spending with no route towards creating a long-term plan for Scotland’s finances.

This often stifles conversations about how we achieve impactful public policy and preventative spending. There are tough conversations to be had about how we raise and spend money in Scotland and whether our system encourages preventative spend by government.

Join Kezia Dugdale and Nicola McEwen from the University of Glasgow’s Centre for Public Policy in a frank conversation about the money behind Scotland's public policy landscape:

  • How we raise it?
  • Who has got it?
  • How is it spent?
  • Why is preventative spend so hard?
  • How can we improve it and what might the future hold?

The session will lead with a discussion between Kezia and Nicola, with time for questions and discussion with the audience.
