Rachel Riddell
My name is Rachel Riddell and I am a third year English major and History minor at Queen’s University. I interned for the Poverty Research Network during the summer of 2021, going into my third year of studies in university. During my internship with the network I helped develop the social media platforms of the network’s sub-branch, the Food Sovereignty Network with exhibition curator Tommaso Ranfagni. In launching these accounts, I edited graphics to reflect noteworthy insight and research that the Network wanted to highlight, from considering the growth of urban agriculture during COVID-19 lockdowns to the Indian farmers’ strike of late 2020. In curating these posts with the goal of extending the network’s ambitions to the broader public, I learned how to present and synthesize information on pressing topics in a way both digestible to a wider audience yet still informative and rich in knowledge. As someone who plans to pursue a career in either law or academia, being able to succinctly relay details of a larger body of text and narrow into its most critical elements without forgoing its main points is a crucial skill that I thank the Poverty Research Network for allowing me to build on.
