September 2023 – POMEPS Workshop
Over twenty-five scholars are due to attend the joint two-day workshop on “The Politics of Migration and Refugee Rentierism in the Middle East” on 23–24 September 2023. The event, co-sponsored by the Project on Middle East Political Science (POMEPS) of George Washington University and the ERC Starting Grant Project MOBSANCT, is being held at the University of Glasgow. It is co-organised by Professors Marc Lynch and Gerasimos Tsourapas.
The workshop aims to discuss the methodological, analytical, and empirical dimensions of migration and refugee rent-seeking across the Middle East and North Africa, as it places established work on rentier states in conversation with emerging work on the power politics of labour and forced migration. Its contributors include early-career scholars and established researchers, based in Europe, North America, as well as the Middle East and North Africa.
