Our Purpose
The Glasgow University Media Group (GUMG) has a global reputation for innovative research which investigates the role of the media in driving political change now in a digital age. From our work on the miners’ strike to climate change and the Israel-Palestine conflict in the present day, our research has shown how power is exercised in society. Our founding members designed research methodologies such as context analysis and audience focus groups and the conceptual model of production, content, reception, and these innovations are now applied the world over. The legacy of our work continues as we adapt and apply these methods in current contexts. The GUMG is inter-disciplinary, international, and we engage closely with policymakers, journalists and academics to produce insights which deliver impact in areas such as health behaviours, discrimination, immigration and welfare.
