Wednesday 14 March 2012, 17.30 – 19.30, Univ. of Glasgow, Sir Charles Wilson Lecture Theatre
E15 Campus map: http://www.gla.ac.uk/media/media_1887_en.pdf

Speaker: Lt Col Alasdair Morrison (UK Army Legal Services)

International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights law are distinct but related areas of law.  The overlap is particularly evident in non international armed conflicts and their aftermaths.  This short talk seeks to review the relationship from a practitioner’s view and how their varying demands can be attempted to be reconciled.

About the speaker: Alasdair Morrison studied law at the universities of Dundee and Bristol.  He is currently a part time research student at the School of Law.  After qualifying as a solicitor he was in private practice for several years before joining the UK Army Legal Services in 1985.  He has practised in a range of areas over the years.  He has worked in Bosnia, Kosovo, Timor-Leste and Afghanistan as a legal advisor.  His research interests lie in the field of international criminal law.

The event will conclude with a reception in the SCW Foyer jointly organised by Glasgow Human Rights Network & Glasgow University Global Security Roundtable.

All are welcome – free of charge.  If you plan to attend please register below or at: http://ghrn-morrison.eventbrite.com
