Same Sex Marriage in the UK and Scotland: Different perspectives on a controversial subject
18th April 2013, 5.30 - 7.30pm
Gannochy Lecture Theatre, Wolfson Medical School Building
Moderator: Kelly Kollman, University of Glasgow
Speakers: Dr Nicola Barker (University of Kent); Tim Hopkins (Director of the Equality Network); Father John Keenan (University Roman Catholic Chaplain); Professor Kenneth Norrie (University of Strathclyde); Rabbi Mark Solomon (Edinburgh Liberal Jewish Community)
The roundtable brings together experts and campaigners who offer a range of views, both supportive and sceptical, on same-sex marriage. The speakers will address activist, legal and ethical arguments for opening marriage as well as feminist and religious critiques of the proposed reform. The speakers will also discuss their views on the quality of the current bills being debated in Holyrood and Westminster and the nature of the politics surrounding the issue. There will be an opportunity for the audience to join the conversation with a question and answer period at the end of the session.
