Software Upskilling for Researchers: Introduction to Julia
Speaker: Dr Samuel Skipsey
This workshop will introduce the relatively new programming language Julia. As it continues to grow, and more researchers use it for their work, we'd like to offer an opportunity to researchers across the University of Glasgow to get to know what's so cool about it.
In this workshop, we'll explore some of its general interesting features, hopefully leading to a discussion about applications and specific use cases. Julia has a very wide online presence, which makes it very easy to learn. Have a look at their intro page:
Dr Skipsey has prepped a very short set of slides on Pre-Workshop Stuff that we ask everyone to do before turning up – mostly this is just installing a local copy of Julia + some commonly useful packages. (Doing this also introduces you to some very useful parts of the Julia dev ecosystem itself).
As usual, let us know in our feedback forms what else you want to hear about! You can also contact the SUfRs team at sufrs-organisers@lists.cent.gla.ac.uk
