On 6-7 March, 2007, His Excellency Mr Vygaudas Ušačkas, Lithuanian Ambassador to the UK visited the University of Glasgow. During his visit the Ambassador gave a special lecture on 'Lithuania Meeting the Challenges of the XXI Century' and met with Lithuanian students and other members of the local Lithuanian community at a reception hosted by the Department of Central and East European Studies.

The Ambassador also attended the official CRCEES launch event on 7 March, as well as a special lecture by Mr George Reid, Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament. Mr Ušačkas also visited the Slavonic and East European section of the University Library, and a display of original documents related to Adam Smith, provided by the Special Collections service of the Library and the University Archive. Accompanying the Ambassador was Lithuania's Honorary Consul to Scotland Mr Bill Toner.
