Published: 13 February 2013
A library and archive training workshop will be held in St Petersburg 13-17 February 2013.
Applications are invited from doctoral students at CRCEES universities* for a library and archive training workshop, to be held in St Petersburg 13-17 February 2013.
Application deadline has passed
The scheme is intended mainly for doctoral students at an early stage of their research who will be carrying out a prolonged period of fieldwork in Russian libraries and archives later in their doctorate. However, applications from more experienced researchers will be considered. The archival element of the training will be particularly useful for those working with pre-revolutionary materials.
Training will take place at the Russian National Library, the Russian State Historical Archive and the European University at St Petersburg. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to learn about the collections and systems of management related to the library and archival collections. There will also be training in the use of electronic retrieval systems.
The Centre for Russian, Central and East European Studies (CRCEES) will cover the flight, accommodation (4 nights) and visa costs of successful candidates.
Applicants must provide evidence that library and/or archival work is essential to their doctoral research, and must possess a reasonable command of Russian. Applications should include the following:
- A 200-word statement describing your research project and the progress made so far on your research, including any language training already completed. This statement must make it clear why you will need to carry out archive research, and which archive(s) you have already identified as useful or essential to your project.
- A supporting statement from your supervisor, to be submitted by the same deadline, confirming your need for archive training and describing your progress so far.
- Details of your university program and your citizenship, and any other relevant personal information.
Application Deadline: (Including references from supervisors) Friday 23 November.
Please note that places are limited and will be awarded to eligible applicants on a first-come-first-served basis.
