2-3 December 2011, University of Glasgow
A 2 day event being held on 2-3 December 2011
Central and East European Studies (CEES) at the University of Glasgow is pleased to announce a second international student symposium on Estonian society, history and culture. The first international student symposium was held in 2008 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Estonian Republic and was very successful.
The aim of this symposium is to bring together those undergraduate and postgraduate students abroad who are studying Estonian language and/or culture, also students of Estonian origin, as well as students from Estonian HEI-s to give them possibilities to meet and learn from each other.
The first 2 plenary presentations on Friday morning in the Wolfson Medical Building are open to all students without registering for the conference. The first presentation is about the archives in the region and will be very useful for CEES undergraduate and postgraduate students. The second is from our own recent PhD graduate Paul Jordan.
Students are hereby invited to submit paper proposals dealing with any of the following aspects of Estonian politics, society and culture, past or present.
- aspects of identity and culture
- economic and social transformation
- political transformation and international relations
- literary, cinematic and cultural development
- language
