Alexandra Demenkova, a documentary photographer from St. Petersburg will give a talk (in English) on a collection of photographs that focusing on social issues of everyday life, entitled 'Social Photograhy as Art: the Case of Russia'. Admission is free.
About the Photographer
Alexandra Demenkova (b.1980) belongs to the new breed of documentary photographers focusing on social issues of everyday life, ranging from the homeless people to migrant workers, from psychiatric institutions to ropewalkers, circus and street artists.
She was a prize winner of the Best Photo Correspondent of the Year (St.Petersburg, 2004-2006) including the Grand Prix in 2006. She is currently a resident artist at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, the Netherlands.
Venue
The exhibition will take place in the The Street Level Photoworks Gallery which is located in Trongate, in Glasgow city centre.
The event is supported by CRCEES and is in association with the Slavonic Section of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures (SMLC), University of Glasgow.
