In CenTCS, we focus on the power of the teacher and leader as levers for transformative change.
We believe that educators’ abilities to make powerful impacts on young people and to shape a cutting edge school system can best be fostered through top notch professional learning policies and practices.
We know that young people from historically and contemporarily underserved backgrounds encounter schooling systems that too often fail to provide adequate opportunities for their holistic growth and development.
These failures stem from systemic limitations that often constrain the reach of individual educators’ teaching and leading.
Nevertheless, we know that it is the individual educator and groups of educators who make a powerful impact on young people’s daily school experiences. Powerful impacts require powerful professional learning. That’s why we aim for transformative change by focusing on educator professional learning.
CenTCS is a vibrant and committed research group that fulfils its aims by:
- Fostering a nurturing environment for academic growth within CenTCS and the broader School of Education;
- Developing national and international networks that support knowledge generation and exchange;
- Developing and researching sustainable Research-Practice Partnerships;
- Growing its national and international reputation as a leader in the field of research on educator professional learning and praxis as a lever for transformative change in schools.
