Marginalisation, stigma and choice? - 22nd & 23rd June 2015
Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd June 2015
Yudowitz Lecture Theatre, Wolfson Medical School Building, University of Glasgow
Co-hosted by Behaviour, Structure and Interventions (BSI) and Policy Scotland
This event is an opportunity for academics, policymakers and practitioners to come together and tease out how behavioural and other policy analytical frameworks can be applied to help understand the plight of the marginalised and stigmatised. In particular, how can can a rigorous approach to ideas like aspirations failure, poverty traps, empowerment, basic income, inequality and wage levels, and a systematic evidence-based policy framework help public, private and voluntary sector bodies decide which actions would most improve the choices and life chances open to the most disadvantaged, be they in Kolkata or Glasgow?
This event is multi-disciplinary and seeks to be accessible to a wide range of academics and practitioners. It is also avowedly internationalist in ambition and seeks to share experiences across contexts and look for shared or otherwise applicable lessons across the diversity of human experiences.
The workshop will include a talk by the Principal of the University, Professor Anton Muscatelli.
The organisers acknowledge the support from the RSE's Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) and What Works Scotland.
