The ARC is excited to present Pig, directed by Michael Sarnoski, as the first CinemARC of 2025! Starring Nicolas Cage, the film follows a truffle hunter living alone in the wilderness of Oregon who must return to his past in search of his beloved foraging pig after she is kidnapped by restaurant-owners.
Following the screening, you'll hear from researchers studying interactions between animals and humans. This event is in collaboration with Dr Jamie Redgate (School of Critical Studies) and Dr Leyla De Amicis (School of Education).
This event is only suitable for those aged 15+.

Directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Nicolas Cage, the movie tells the story of a reclusive truffle hunter living in the Oregonian wilderness with his beloved pig. When his pig is stolen, the truffle hunter ventures into Portland’s culinary underworld to find her, confronting his past and questioning his present along the way.
About Dr Jamie Redgate
Jamie completed a PhD in English Literature, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, in 2018. The resulting book, Wallace and I (2019), was published by Routledge. He is currently working on a second monograph, tentatively titled Meatfiction: Humanism, Animals, and Veganism in the Contemporary Novel. Jamie also co-runs the Studies of Meat in the Arts and Culture (StOMAC) reading group
About Dr Leyla De Amicis
Leyla is a Lecturer in Education in the School of Education. She has an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Padua and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Sussex. She leads and teaches several psychology and research methods courses, including the Psychology of Environmental Sustainability in the MSc Psychological Studies programme. She has presented research and run public engagement activities on meat consumption reduction, vegans-non vegans relationships and nature connectedness, supported by ESRC IAA grants and at ESRC Social Sciences Festivals. She is a committee member of the BPS Social Psychology Section and member of the BPS Environmental Psychology Section and PHAIRS Society.
