Presented at the ARC in collaboration with HippFest, Scotland’s first and only silent film festival, join us on an enchanting Journey to the Isles with a special screening of Marjory Kennedy-Fraser’s silent films of 1920s Hebridean life, with storytelling and musical accompaniment from Marion Kenny and Mairi Campbell. After the screening we will be joined by researchers to discuss the legacy and debates surrounding Kennedy-Fraser.

Fired by a desire to preserve the musical riches of the islands' people, Marjory Kennedy-Fraser began collecting Hebridean songs in 1905. Weaving together words, music and song alongside Kennedy-Fraser’s films, Marion and Mairi conjure the sounds and landscapes captured by this key figure of Scotland’s Celtic Revival.

In conversation with Journey to the Isles, we will be showcasing Graham Eatough’s short film Floating Worlds: Erraid Sound at the ARC from 09:00 – 17:00 on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 November.
