This course will aid reflection on and consideration of personal and professional contexts in relation to the educational challenge we offer those pupils who might be described as being 'highly able' or 'gifted and talented.' 

Semester 2 -

Day course: 5 consecutive days, 9.30-3.30pm

Evening course: 2x 5 hr days plus 5x 2hr evening sessions (April - June)

Distance course: 2 x 5hr days plus online study (April - June)

Class essay 4000 words

1.To assist students to reflect on personal and professional beliefs related to the nature of intelligence;

2.To investigate the nature of intelligence through the examination of theory, research and relevant literature;

3.To consider critically current practice and provision related to the education of highly able/gifted and talented learners.

On completion of the course students will be able to demonstrate the following outcomes.

1 Show critical understanding of the theoretical debate related to intelligence and the education of highly able/gifted children and young people

2 Reflect critically on personal and professional attitudes to the education of highly able/gifted and talented learners, using understanding of the theoretical debate.

3 Reflect critically on practice and provision for highly able/gifted and talented learners, using understanding of the theoretical debate.

4 Write sensitively and positively about the issues, presenting a clear personal position.
